THE NEW-LOOK Top Gear is several episodes into its much-anticipated comeback to television screens with a brand new team. To invoke another BBC icon, the show has regenerated -and even mutated to form a new weird cousin, The Grand Tour, starring the old crew of Clarkson et al. The Top Gear concept remains the same: cars, cars and more cars. And with the Top Gear branding, the Beeb gets to retain the show's audience, goodwill and recognition. There are parallels in the car industry itself, in which spin-offs of successful brands are the stuff of life.
