Kevin Hilton laments that creativity loses out to technology in BBC Music Live but wonders if it is an unavoidable by-product of our high-tech age. In broadcasting, finding the balance between conflicting ele-ments is a constant dilemma. Getting the equilibrium right between creativity and technology, with economics being the final deciding factor, is always a tricky business. A good script and fine performances can transcend poor production values but they can become a classic piece of work if combined with the best technology. Conversely, the latest equipment and gadgets cannot rescue a bad idea or lack of creativity, not matter how much technology is thrown at it, as the BBC's Gormenghast recently demonstrated.
