How the lily blooms

摘要

Although blooming is a ubiquitous metaphor in art and literature, the process has, until now,largely escaped scientific scrutiny and remains poorly understood. Haiyi Liang and L. Mahadevan (pp. 5516-5521) used a combination of observations, experiments, and modeling to investigate the physical process of blooming in the Asiatic lily, Lilium casa-blanca.
