摘要

Activation of the innate immune system, which provides a nonspecific firstline defense against microbial invasion, is a crucial step in subsequently activating the more specificadaptive responses that can clear infections or cancersand provide long-term protection against reinfection. Without the need for previous exposure to a given pathogen, the innate immune system may naturally mount a rapid response to new infections (1).
