Editorial

摘要

Three years ago I referred in an editorial to the constraints on power generation imposed by global warming. Since then, whole forests of paper have been devoted to the subject. The media have ensured that the threat is now ingrained in the consciousness of a large cross-section of the public. More recently, a second threat has also become better known: that to the security of our electricity supplies. The situation that will arise in the UK when the Large Combustion Plant Directive forces some coal-fired plant to close in 2015 is particular to this country. However, similar constraints will soon be felt elsewhere and should be discussed internationally.
