摘要

I wish to congratulate the authors for preparing an interesting and useful paper that represents the state of the art of allowable (safe) distances from impact-pile-driving sites. It has the potential to become a reference document. The reason for writing this discussion is to call attention to some soil and structure vibration data that were produced on vibration and impact pile driving (Longinow et al. 1988; Linehan et al. 1992). Such data were used in the original paper. To do so, it is useful to briefly describe the project that produced the data, in which the task was to protect a 300-psi natural gas pipeline from a significant amount of vibration and impact pile driving.
