Four power outages last summer didn't close down the workflow at California's Health and Human Services' 170,000-square-foot data center in Sacramento. The massive facility continued running smoothly thanks to a new standby power system up and running just 90 days after data center officials gave the initial project go-ahead. In January 2001, data center executives, heeding warnings of summertime power outages, opted to update the facility's 18-year-old standby power system and outdated electrical distribution system.
