A study on the characterization of the incipient failure behaviorof insulators in power distribution line

A feasibility study on the characterization of incipient insulatornfailure for distribution fault prediction is presented. In this study,nreal distribution data was collected and analyzed to isolate incipientnfailure signatures or parameters which were expected to show distinctnbehaviors before and after failure incident. Several signal analysisnmethods were applied to isolate the parameters and a new strategy ofnanalysis, the event-date concept, was also applied to find anrelationship between nonharmonic and high frequency signal activitiesnand imminent insulator failures
