Among the ongoing liberalization of the global energy markets,nseveral technical developments in the field of power electronic basedntransmission devices lead to a significant restructuring of the electricnpower supply. These FACTS-devices (Flexible A_CnT_ransmission S_stems) enable a continuous andnwear-resistant control of active and reactive power flows as well asnvoltage control. The incorporation of the control capabilities providednby FACTS-devices into an optimal power flow (OPF) opens up an unusednpotential for reducing power losses as well as cost for powerntransmission of the power system operator. This paper describes thenoptimization method basing on sequential quadratic programming (SQP)nincluding models of FACTS-devices suitable for a gradient basednoptimization. Furthermore, the economically efficient operation ofnFACTS-devices is shown using different scenarios
