New dredger for Jan De Nul

During June this year Belgium's Jan De Nul Group placed an order in China for two stationary cutter suction dredgers (SB 408 and SB 409). These two medium sized vessels will have a cutter power of 1,500kW, and a total installed diesel engine power of about 8,500kW. The vessels will be built by Tianjin Xinhe Shipyard in China. This shipyard is also currently building four 3,700m~3 split barges for Jan De Nul that were ordered in September 2003. The new cutter dredgers will be delivered respectively in the first and third quarters of 2006. The dredgers, which will have a dredging depth of up to 20m, are very heavy for their size, and have a large freeboard. This makes them suitable for dredging tough soils, and for safe operation in exposed areas.
