Promises of the East

Home to gateways and transhipment hubs, the East Med's ports vary in structure from burgeoning state-owned bureaucracy, through ambitious greenfield industrial complex, to small privately owned facility. Differing port management styles are evolving fast from the outmoded administrative models often heavy with political influence. Today ports are seizing new opportunities to streamline and raise capital whilst struggling to come to terms with the reality of intense competition. Often coupled with this is the need to address convergence criteria ahead of much-coveted EU accession or, in Greece's case, membership of the Euro club.
