ALWC - also known as Lowest Astronomical Tide (LAT) corrosion and concentrated corrosion — is an accelerated form of corrosion that can occur on inshore, tidal, marine, steel structures at or around the low water level. Although marine piling is subject to many types of corrosion, ALWC has emerged as an unexpected and particular threat to the integrity of quaywalls and other structures that are built using any form of steel piling including sheet, tubes and 'H' piles.
