Van den Driest argues for Maasvlakte Ⅱ

The decision as to whether Maasvlakte II should go ahead has caused much debate in the Netherlands and is a critical issue for ECT. Capacity at Rotterdam is a major concern and the Dutch government is thought to believe that further major port developments should be accomplished elsewhere in the Netherlands. Perhaps unsurprisingly, ECT president Carel van den Driest argues that, as far as possible, the future expansion of container operations should be based in Rotterdam. He argues, "Of course I'm based in Rotterdam so I'm inclined to favour Rotterdam expansion.
