New technology is impacting all areas of the global logistics chain but one of the key issues that characterised the Pdl e-Commerce in Ports Conference was the varying levels of knowledge among different players. An exciting range of speeches were met with lively debate and discussion. A truly international group of participants reviewed a broad range of issues impacting on all areas of port efficiency and contributed some fascinating ideas and solutions. One of the ongoing debates throughout the event included the issue of international standards. With initiatives such as Inttra and Tradiant (see lead news, p 3-4) being recently announced, there was an a great deal of debate about whether a global portal is actually required and, if so, how it could be achieved.
