摘要

The United Nations, World Bank, policymakers aroundnthe world, and scholars from a wide range of disciplinesnare devoting increasing amounts of attention tonunderstanding the processes that drive migration asnwell as to how they are linked to development andnpoverty. While much of this research has traditionallynfocused on South-to-North migration, more emphasisnis now being placed on processes of South-to-Southnmigration. In Surviving on the Move: Migration, Povertynand Development in Southern Africa, editors JonathannCrush and Bruce Frayne argue that most of thesenSouth-to-South studies are based on either a macro- ornmicro-level perspective. However, they argue thatn‘ultimately the causes of migration are multiple, variable,nscale-dependant, and often country-specifi c’n(p. 4). Surviving on the Move strives to present a morendetailed analysis of these issues; each chapter in thenvolume adds to a more nuanced understanding ofnmigration in the southern Africa region, one that ultimatelynencompasses complex processes occurring atnvarious scales.
