A Stucco Issue

Would you put a siding on your home that keeps water out only when installed perfectly? That's exactly what homeowners with exterior insulation and finish systems (EIFS) did. And now, as a result, some have found themselves the eye of a legal and technological storm. EIFS consists of synthetic stucco applied over foam insulation board that is glued to the home's sheathing. Just like with any home siding, water can seep in behind the siding through gaps. That's why carpenters have traditionally put a drainage gap behind wood or brick siding, then covered the sheathing with watertight paper.
