American luxury cars have traditionally offered far more in the way of comfort than of driving performance. But in Europe, many of the finest sedans have the characteristics of a good sports car while carrying four passengers with ease, and the concept of high-performance sedans is steadily gaining momentum on this side of the Atlantic. The latest generation of luxury sedans, forged in the crucible of Europe's high-speed highways and winding mountain roads, defies conventional ideas of luxury. Ranging from just under $30,000 to more than $40,000, these aren't the most expensive cars on the market, but the price of the leading edge technology they incorporate earns them the sobriquet "near luxury."
