Hp's mini-note is the latest in a string of lightweight, low-cost laptops that began appearing last November with the two-pound, $300 Asus Eee PC. But the 2.8-pound Mini-Note packs large features: an 8.9-inch screen, a 120-gigabyte hard drive and a large keyboard. The big disk keeps the price small-it's a common 2.5-inchrnmodel that's cheaper than the 1.8-inch platters or flash-memory chips in other tinyrnlaptops. HP squeezed it in by designing the main circuit board around it, arrangingrncomponents in a slightly different way andrneliminating rarely used connectors like the i modem port.
