On a recent visit to professional road racer and Corvette builder Dick Guldstrand's shop, we got into a discussion about the status of making old cars handle like new cars. He told us a story about one of his customers who'd bought a totally restored '69 Impala and brought it by his shop to take him for a ride. The guy complained the whole time about how sloppy it felt going around corners and told Guldstrand he was convinced something was wrong with his car. He begged Guldstrand to fix it. "It drives just like a '69 Impala should drive, big and clunky," Guldstrand replied to his dejected customer, but he understood the guy's concerns. "Leave it one week," he told the guy "and it'll be better than ever."
