It's a matter of practicality that a car's performance-or lack of it-is dictated by the tire's footprint and how much brake you can fit inside it. A wider tirealso grips the pavement better. For this reason, we favor the widest tires possible on 17 or 18inch rims. But can smaller diameter tires work well in highgrip situations? We think this is worth a second look.
