Not to sound melodramatic, but in the years and decades to come, we will look back fondly to 2013 as the year autocross finally hit the big time. Specifically, the Goodguys 16th Southwest Nationals on November 15-16, 2013, at WestWorld of Scottsdale was the occasion that marks the first time such a large cash purse was ever paid out to amateur autocrossers racing against the clock on a coned-off parking lot. In this case, $5,000 cash was handed out to the top four finishers in a heated 24-car bracket that consisted of the top 20 qualifiers from previous events (more on that later), and the four fastest qualifiers that weekend at WestWorld.
