The methacrylate ester of 1-oxo-2,6,7-trioxa-1-phosphabicyclo[2,2,2]oct-4-ylmethanol (pentaerythritol phosphate, PEPA) has been polymerised to give a fire-retardant homopolymer of high thermal stability. Copolymerisation of PEPA-methacrylate with methyl methacrylate, styrene, and triallylcyanurate has also been achieved. The copolymers are all fire-retardant, but none exhibit intumescent decomposition. [References: 12]
