Bimolecular hydroperoxide decomposition of polymers such as polypropylene is re-examined. Initially the reaction has been estabilished and discussed for hydroperoxides in solution. In this work, the reaction is examined in connection with the conditions encountered with polymer melts and polymers in the solid phase. If the reaction between the two hydroperoxide groups is inter- molecular, and even more so, if it is intramolecular, the peroxy radical and the alkoxy radical formed will be close remain close. As a consequence of this proximity, hydrogen abstraction by one of these radicals will also involve hydrogen atoms in proximity to the Second radicaly.
