Effect of some polyaromatic amines on the properties of NR and SBR vulcanizates

Poly(o-aminophenol), poly(o-aminothiophenol), poly(m-anisidine) and polyaniline were prepared by chemical oxidation of their monomers using ammonium persulfate. The polymers were incorporated into both natural and styrene butadiene rubber mixes. The rheometric characteristics of the rubber mixes and the physico-mechanical properties of the rubber vulcanizates were measured. The rubber sheets were subjected to accelerated thermo-oxidative aging and the retained physico--mechanical properties were determined. The prepared polymers were found to be very good antioxidants in both NR and SBR vulcanizates in comparison with the conventional antioxidant PBN. The results were correlated to the chemical structure of the investigated polymers.
