Municipal Solid waste disposal is a major problem in developing countries; mainly during rainy season the moisture interacts with municipal solid waste and the leachate percolate to the soil and contaminating the groundwater. To prevent the groundwater being contaminated, a barrier is provided between the waste and the groundwater. The compacted sand-bentonite mixtures prepared with various proportions from 5 to 30 % of bentonite was added to the sand is used as a landfill liner material at waste disposal site. If the addition of bentonite content is low then pores between the soils is not fully filled and water move freely. On the other hand, large amount of bentonite reduces the liner material strength. Hence, there is need to select the most appropriate proportion to reach the desired technical requirements for the design of seepage barriers. To improve the liner materials and prevent the desiccation cracking, both natural and synthetic fibres are added to the mixture as a reinforcing material. It shows that swelling pressure and swelling potential decreased from 1.06 to 0.39 mm with increasing the addition of polypropylene fibre content between 0.5% and 1.0%, the shrinkage limit of the samples increased with increasing fibre content, and the extent of crack formation was reduced significantly.
