Yesterday morning the 35 Belfast members of the Royal Irish Constabulary who have been accepted for service with the Irish Guards left the Great Northern Railway Company's terminus at Great Victoria Street for Dublin by the ten o'clock train, Belfast Defences. The City commissioner (Mr. T.J. Smith J.P) was unable to attend, but they were given a hearty send-of not only by their comrades, but also by a large number of the general public. The men paraded at Glenravel Street Barracks at nine o'clock and were inspected by Major General Vesey J. Dawson, C.V.O. who formerly commanded the Irish Guards, and Lieutenant -Colonel the Honourable A.E. Hill-Trevor, Intelligence Officer, on engagement in Dublin. Amongst those present were: - District-Inspectors Robert Dunlop, W.C.F. Redmond, G. Ross, E.O Gerity, and W. Atteridge and ex District-Inspector Thomas Keaveney, who recently retired from the Force. Lieutenant -Colonel the Honourable A.E. Hill-Trevor personally presented to each man a patent pipe lighter, the gifts being highly appreciated by the men.
