All manuscripts submitted to Polar Biology are sent to external referees for anonymous peer review. This time consuming-and at times also pain-staking-process is crucial for maintaining the high scientific standards of the published articles and thus contributes significantly to developing our journal as an esteemed platform for com municating novel research findings among the polar sci ence community.
