Senator Lamar Alexander, the chairman of the Senate Appropriationsrnsubcommittee with jurisdiction over DOE spending, told Secretary ofrnEnergy Ernest Moniz March 9 that he thinks the department shouldrnproceed with a waste program on all fronts — the repository DOE oncernproposed building at Yucca Mountain, Nevada; a second disposalrnfacility and private-sector storage.rnAlexander, a Tennessee Republican, said that his preference is thatrnthe Yucca Mountain project move forward but that even if that disposalrnfacility were filled to its 70,000 metric ton statutory limit, anotherrnrepository would be needed.
