NRC issues information notice on spent fuel cask handling events

Several events related to spent fuel cask movement at US nuclearpower plants that have occurred in recent years offer lessons abouthow to conduct such operations, NRC said in an information noticereleased November 4.In the notice, IN-19-09, dated October 30 and issued to all powerreactor licensees, the agency described seven events at six plants:Clinton, Fort Calhoun, San Onofre, Kewaunee, Palisades and Pilgrim. Allexcept Clinton and Palisades have permanently shut, and Palisades isscheduled to close in 2022.
