China Chalco’s 2010 alumina output jumps 30% on year

The Aluminum Corporation of ChinanLimited, or Chalco, produced 10.13 millionnmt of alumina in 2010, an increasenof 30.2% from output of 7.78 million mtnin 2009, the company said in a statementnon the Shanghai Stock ExchangenTuesday. Primary aluminum productionnfor the year reached 3.84 million mt, upn11.6% year on year, while aluminum fabricationnoutput stood at 605,000 mt, anrise of 46.6% from a year ago. For 2011,nChalco said it expects both alumina andnprimary aluminum output to rise furthernon the back of expanded capacity.nAlumina production in 2011 is expectednto climb about 18.1% from 2010 levels,nwhile primary aluminum output isnforecast to increase 4.86%. Chalco hadnin late 2010 started operations at twonrefining facilities, Chalco Chongqing andnChalco Zunyi, which each have aluminancapacity of 800,000 mt/year. The companynalso expects to complete minornupgrades at its Chalco Liancheng andnGansu Hualu smelters in 2011.
