Fall nuclear refueling outages could be up 36%

This fall’s nuclear refueling season, which kicked off last Monday with the St. Lucie Unit 2 plant in southern Florida, is expected to be much busier than last fall’s outage season. The season, which will conclude in late December, is expected to include 30 units totaling 30,874 net MW going offline, a 36% increase from the capacity that went offline for refueling in the second half of 2014, when 23 units totaling 22,690 net MW shut.
