NYSEG eyes role in distributed energy program

New York State Electric and Gas is moving forward with a program torndevelop its role as the coordinator of communities and distributedrnenergy resource developers.rnThe New York Public Service Commission’s REV initiative, orrnreforming the energy vision, calls on utilities to act as “distributionrnsystem platform providers” to synchronize the development of therndistributed resources.rnNYSEG’s demonstration project is the first step in the developmentrnof the platform, Laney Brown, director of smart grid planning andrnprograms for NYSEG, said Friday in an interview.rn“The interesting thing about the demonstration is that it exploresrnthe elements that it will take to develop the platform,” she said.rnThe platform can be many different things with technicalrncomponents and customer components and ways for marketrnparticipants to have access to customers, Brown said. The first phasernalso explores the revenue streams for the utility as the platformrnprovider.
