AEP expects fair bids for merchant plants

American Electric Power believes potential buyers of its roughly 6,000 MW of merchant generation, mostly in Ohio, will not attempt to "lowball" the company for the assets, Nicholas Akins, AEP chairman, president and CEO, said Thursday. Among the bidders could be "private equity" interests, Akins told analysts during a conference call to discuss the Columbus, Ohio-based company's fourth quarter and 2015 earnings.
