Calif. approves pro-solar net metering rules

In a move supported by the solar industry, the California Public Utilities Commission Thursday approved a new net metering framework that pays customers with rooftop solar their retail rate for any power they sell back to the grid. The state's new net metering rules will reduce a cost shift that benefits net metering customers but more changes will be needed before the state has an "enduring" solar policy, according to Michael Picker, PUC president.
