Nuclear outages boost Southeast burn, prices

Lower-than-normal generation from nuclear facilities in the Southeast has helped bolster regional power burn demand and power prices as unplanned outages have hit the market prior to the ramp up of the spring refueling season. Month to date, nuclear outages in the Southeast have averaged 2,279 MW/d offline, compared to only 522 MW/d offline in 2015 and 1,083 MW/d offline in 2014. The year-on-year change has been primarily driven by Sequoyah nuclear plant Unit 1 and River Bend nuclear plant Unit 1.
