The Defense Logistics Agency has contracted with Apex Clean EnergyrnHoldings, a Charlottesville, Virginia, independent renewable energyrncompany, for almost 30 years of power for Fort Hood, Texas, one of thernnation's largest and most populous military installations.rnThe contract is for 29 years and 10 months of on-site solar energyrnproduction and off-site wind energy, supplemented with electricityrnfrom conventional resources, according to a DLA announcementrnreleased late last week. The maximum value of the firm-fixed-pricerncontract is $497,350,565. The conventional energy part of the contractrnis for 10 years, with one 10-year and one eight-year option period. Therncontract is expected to be completed by October 31, 2045.rn"This was a competitive acquisition with nine responses received,"rnthe DLA said.rnIn a prepared statement released Wednesday, Col. Todd Fox, FortrnHood US Army Garrison commander, said, "We are very pleased withrnthe recent award of a large scale renewable energy contract as it willrnallow Fort Hood to utilize sun and wind resources to generate nearlyrnhalf of our electricity needs over the course of a year, at a cost lowerrnthan we are paying now."
