Conn. Governor signs bill to aid Millstone nuclear

Connecticut Governor Dannel Malloy signed legislation Tuesday that could assist Dominion Energy's economically challenged Millstone nuclear power plant in the state. Senate Bill 1501, approved by the state's legislature Thursday, would make Dominion eligible to bid for long-term supply contracts for up to half of Millstone's output as a renewable energy resource if an ongoing assessment by Connecticut's Department of Energy and Environmental Protection and Public Utilities Regulatory Authority determines such action to be in the public interest. The generation of Millstone-2 and -3, with a combined capacity of 2,194 MW, is currently sold under long-term arrangements to financial institutions such as hedge funds.
