Texas power burn hits new monthly lows

Natural gas demand for power generation in Texas has been well below historical levels in each of the past four months, as wind output continues to take a greater portion of market share, crowding out gas. Since August, the monthly average for Texas natural gas power demand has been 464 MMcf/d below five-year average levels. In November, power demand averaged 2.9 Bcf/d, 576 MMcf/d below the 3.4 Bcf/d five-year average typical for the month, Platts Analytics’ Bentek Energy data show.
