Mid-C plummets with major transmission line out for maintenance

Mid-Columbia on-peak day-ahead sank 29% Tuesday as thermal generation rebounded in the Bonneville Power Authority territory and the DC intertie transmission line connecting Mid-Columbia to NOB and Southern California was out of service, according to the BPA Oasis website. Mid-Columbia on-peak day-ahead lost $17.75, trading in the low $40s/MWh on the Intercontinental Exchange for Wednesday delivery. BPA thermal generation, which plummeted last week while gas was unavailable at Sumas Hub, has started to recover. Fossil fuel generation reached 1,120 MW Tuesday morning, up from 840 MW the day before. On Saturday, the DC intertie line went out of service for maintenance and is scheduled to be out through November 18, preventing the flow of power from Mid-Columbia into Oregon and California.
