ERCOT expects record summer peakload, tight operating reserves

The Electric Reliability Council of Texas is calling for peak demand record for the upcoming summer season driven by a strong economy, and expects to have tight operating reserves due to the recent retirements of older generating units, the grid operator said Thursday. In its latest Seasonal Assessment of Resource Adequacy report for the summer months of June through September, the grid operator projected peakload would reach around 73 GW, compared with a current all-time high of 71.1 GW, set on August 11, 2016.
