FERC floats $600,000 penalty for Ampersand for losing possession of hydro facility

Ampersand Cranberry Lake Hydro must prove why it should not pay a$600,000 civil penalty for failing to retain possession of its New Yorkhydropower project, the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission said,asserting that repairs at the dam are long overdue and that a failure atthe dam could be deadly.The 595-kW Cranberry Lake Project is located on the OswegatchieRiver in St. Lawrence County, New York. The dam fell into disrepairunder a prior owner, and when Ampersand Cranberry Lake tookownership of the project in 2015, it promised to fix it by 2017 (P-9685).
