A council representing four Pacific Northwest states said the region'spower grid will become less adequate in the near term if neighboringstates continue to saturate electricity markets with renewablegeneration, particularly solar energy.The Northwest Power and Conservation Council on Sept. 27 beganaccepting comments to its recently released regional power plan thatcovers Washington, Oregon, Idaho and Montana, whose state officialscollaborate with federal agencies, tribes and other stakeholders tobalance energy and conservation needs. The plan, which is requiredunder a 1980 federal law, also guides resource planning for theBonneville Power Administration, or BPA, a U.S. Department of Energyentity that oversees hydroelectric dams on the Columbia River system.
