PG&E moves ahead of 2021 vegetation management year-end goal of 1,800 miles

PG&E Corp. is five miles ahead of its vegetation management goal to clear 1,800 miles by the end of 2021, with 91% of that work done in high-risk areas, officials said July 29 during the company’s secondquarter 2021 earnings call. The company is tracking 10 miles per day, PG&E Corp. CEO Patti Poppe said. In the years ahead, the parent of the Pacific Gas & Electric utility hopes to bury thousands of distribution lines to cut back on vegetation management time and costs. “We’re moving miles every day,” Poppe said about the 2021 wildfire mitigation plan. “You can bet people in California are very motivated to harden our system against wildfires. …We're going to be very dissatisfied until we have fully derisked the system.”
