Tropical Storm Elsa, which may become a hurricane before makinglandfall on the Florida Gulf Coast July 7, appears to have had littleeffect on the Southeast energy complex, but power demand is downfrom what it would have been, and power prices weakenedaccordingly.As of about 2 pm ET on July 6, the storm center was packingmaximum sustained winds of 70 mph about 180 miles south of Tampa,Florida, heading north at 9 mph. The storm was strengthening andmay top the 74 mph minimum for hurricane status before hitting theGulf Coast, according to the National Hurricane Center.
