Entergy sold 2.1 TWh more electricity in the first quarter of 2021 than in Q1 2020, a 7.3% increase, mostly because of harsher weather. In an earnings call, executives expressed confidence that its low- to zeroemitting generation strategy supports annual earnings growth of 5% to 7% through 2023. Entergy also affirmed its 2021 adjusted earnings per share guidance of $5.80 to $6.10 announced April 28, up from $5.66/share in 2020. The New Orleans-based parent of utilities in Arkansas, Louisiana, Mississippi and Texas reported earnings totaling $335 million, at $1.66/share, in the first quarter, compared with $119 million, or 59 cents/share, for the same period of 2020. Entergy also owns Entergy Wholesale Commodities, but it has decided to exit the merchant power business, which contributed 1.2 TWh to the volume increase. The year-on-year total power sales increase was about 1 TWh, or about 3.7%.
