摘要

Communities in the US that are reliant on the production, transformation and consumption of fossil fuels will need to see funding grow to support the "many workers" expected to be affected by "deep reductions" in GHG emissions across the country, a report by Resources for the Future and the Environmental Defense Fund said Aug. 11. "In communities across the country, from West Virginia to Texas to Wyoming, fossil fuels have supported economic prosperity for generations-but times are changing," the groups said in the report, "Economic Development Policies to Enable Fairness for Workers and Communities in Transition." In the last decade, coal power has fallen significantly as cheaper energy alternatives have become available, "leading to job loss and economic decline in regions that have been dependent on the industry for decades."
