ERCOT day-ahead rises on higher demand, stronger gas and lower expected wind generation

Next-day power prices in the Electric Reliability Council of Texas footprint were much higher Monday, lifted by the expectations of higher demand, strong gas prices and lower wind generation. North Hub day-ahead on-peak was up about $9 on the day to the low $30s/MWh on the Intercontinental Exchange, while its balance-ofthe- week on-peak was valued in the low $30s/MWh. The grid operator projected its peakload to rise from 48.1 GW Monday to 49.5 GW Tuesday, 52.6 GW Wednesday, 54 GW Thursday before falling off to 53.8 GW Friday. Spot gas prices at Houston Ship Channel for Tuesday delivery were traded about 11 cents higher on the day at $2.640/MMBtu. Wind generation, meanwhile, was set to fall overnight from Monday to Tuesday, as wind output was set to average 6.1 GW Monday and 4.5 GW Tuesday.
