MISO POWER TRACKER: Lighter loads, cooler temps, cheaper gas weaken May prices

Day-ahead on-peak power prices in the Midcontinent IndependentSystem Operator footprint were mostly lower in May, both from amonth ago and a year ago, pressured by weaker loads, milder weatherand lower natural gas prices. Forwards in the MISO South region alsoweakened in May.Across the footprint, day-ahead on-peak locational marginal pricesdecreased on the month and were much lower from the same timelast year, as prices at Minnesota Hub were valued in the low $20s/MWhin May, as much as 11% below April’s average and 25% below the yearagolevel.Data from the grid operator showed daily peak demand averagedabout 79 GW in May, up about 8% from April’s average and down about11% from last May.
