ERCOT to add almost 1.6 GW of solar in 2019, but 4.4 GW cancelled so far

Commercial and industrial power buyers recently have shownenthusiasm for solar power in Texas, which remains on track to add1,574 MW of capacity in 2019. However, developers have cancelledmore than 4.4 GW of solar projects so far this year.On Tuesday, Canadian Solar announced that its Recurrent Energysubsidiary had signed a 15-year virtual power purchase agreement withthe brewer Anheuser-Busch for 310 MWdc or 222 MWac capacity fromRecurrent’s Maplewood solar project in Pecos County, which is slatedto begin operation in 2021 in West Texas’ Permian Basin.Ingrid De Ryck, Anheuser-Bush vice president for procurement andsustainability, said that with this deal the company's “entire portfolio ofbeers will be brewed by using 100% renewable electricity from solarand wind power,” which means it will have reached its “2025 USsustainability goals four years ahead of schedule.”
