Lower fuel prices pulled 2019 PJM Interconnection power prices to their lowest levels in history, but generators remain profitable, the market is well supplied and there are no reliability concerns, PJM’s market monitor said Thursday. The cheapest source of power is from combined-cycle natural gas-fired units, while many coal-fired plants are struggling economically, the IMM said.
